Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in a day

A smaller and more personal day tour to one of Iceland’s most spectacular sights: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Although we here at I Heart Reykjavík think it’s best to visit south east Iceland in two days, sometimes you just have one day to do it. If that’s the case, then this tour is definitely for you.

On this tour you will some of the highlights of the south coast but the main attraction is Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. We like this tour because you get to visit one of Iceland’s most beautiful places in Iceland on smaller tour that doesn’t break the budget.

You will be picked up from your hotel or guesthouse and driven out of town. This tour starts officially at Vík so if you’ve already visited the south coast (which we recommend you do) you could make up for the early pick up time with a little nap on the bus.

On this tour you will see Vík, Fjarðarárgljúfur, Kirkjubæjarklaustur,Svínafellsjökull, Seljalandsfoss and the breathtaking Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. At the lagoon you can do an optional Zodiac boat tour – depending on the season and your preferences.

Please note that the boat rides are not available during winter (late October to end of April).

Doing this tour in winter

Fjaðrargljúfur canyon may not be accessible in winter conditions. But other extra stops will be made if the conditions and time will allow for it. Due to fewer daylight hours in November to February much of the driving to and from the sights will be in darkness, but the main sight of this tour – Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon will be visited during daylight.

Free pickup is offered from approved hotels, hostels and guesthouses in downtown Reykjavík

If you are staying in an AirBnB apartment or a hotel that is not included in the pickup list, it’s best if you find the next approved hotel and book your pickup from there.

If you are not sure what is the nearest pickup place, just be in touch and we’ll help you choose.

The cancellation policy for this tour is as follows:

  • Cancellations received more than 24 hours in advance: 90% refund is given
  • Cancellations received within 24 hours of departure: no refund is given

No Show

When a passenger is not present at the submitted pickup place at the beginning of the pickup time, the driver-guide is obliged to continue the pickup of other passengers and is allowed to start the tour without the missing passenger (in order to not delay the tour for the rest of the passengers). This is considered a “No Show” and no refund will  be provided.

“Superb trip with terrific guide”

The trip from Reykjavik to Glacier lagoon is almost 500 miles and 14 hours. Worth the money and worth the time. Spectacular scenery and worthy stops. Our guide Gummi even gave us an extra hour or so looking for the Northern lights (not part of the tour), and the result was fantastic sightings. This is a don't miss--far better than the Golden Circle if you can spare the time. The southern coast is a must see.
“Glacier Lagoon tour”

We had amazing day seeing the south coast and glacier lagoon. We also had a great view of the northern lights. Also, Gummy is an awesome guide/driver/storyteller/northern lights hunter! Best day of our trip to Iceland.

“Waterfalls, Jokulsarlon & more”

Had a great time on our trip up to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. Andrés gave us an incredible amount of information, while also giving us every chance to stop and enjoy the sights along the way, including Eyjafjallajökull & the multiple waterfalls and other landmarks. Told us all about Katla, Hekla, Ingólfr Arnason & Leifur Eiríkssonn & so much more about the history (and present) of Iceland. Couldn't recommend enough, if you dislike large groups and enjoy amazing scenery & piles of information, go for these guys. Picked us up from the front door of our guesthouse as well.. Thanks Andrés!
