About this tour
This tour takes place in the Ölfus area in the southern part of Iceland. You don’t have to worry about getting there, since a free pickup from Reykjavík is included in this tour. If it suits you better, you also can meet the tour on location.
The tour is definitely for the horse lovers. You get to ride the horse for about 4-5 hours and cover around 25 km riding. You start by riding along the beach near the village Þorlákshöfn for about 3 km and continue past another village called Eyrarbakki and through the meadows Ölfusengjar. This should give you the perfect opportunity to try out the tölt, a gait unique for the Icelandic horse, over a long distance. Riding on the beach you will have the perfect ocean view on one hand and the scenic landscape and Icelandic nature on the other hand.
When you have been riding on a horse in Icelandic nature for four or five hours, you are bound to be hungry. Therefore, it’s nice to know that a warm homemade soup and bread will be waiting for you when you return to home base.
This tour is not suitable for beginners. The recommended skill level is medium or experienced riders.
Good to know
You will get all the necessary equipment on location – safety helmets, some outerwear and boots. The weather is always a factor for outdoor activities in Iceland, and in this particular tour, you’ll be outside for up to five hours in the (often) harsh Icelandic elements. Keep that in mind when you choose your outfit so that you will feel comfortable and warm on your ride.

“Best place to Ride EVER!!!”
Went on the beach ride and had the time of my life. Wonderful horses. Walk, Trot, Tolt, Canter and Flying Pace. Opportunity to do it all. Afterwards everyone was invitedbto the house for homemade soup. It doesn't get any friendlier than that. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!
Thanks a lot for a brilliant holiday memori -we never will forget! Perfect service and fantastic horses. Our Tour guide Alaxandra was excellent... Thanks for everything -you guys made our day❤️
“Amazing experience!! Beach riding tour”
I booked this tour on a whim when I got to Reykjavik and I'm so glad that I did! I did the Beach Riding tour, and it was a great experience. It was a small group of 4 people, and our guide Alexandra was awesome! She gave pointers throughout, and told us all about Icelandic horses. The owners picked me up at my hotel, fed the group soup after our ride, and dropped me off afterward. Lovely!
It says it on the website but not on the brochure that I found in the tourist info Centre - I would say the beach ride is definitely not for beginners.
