About this tour
On this tour you will be picked up in Reykjavík and you will drive over to the Ölfus area in the south of Iceland. The drive should not take more than around 40 minutes. Of course, you can enjoy some beautiful landscapes from your window on the way over the mountain road connecting the south of Iceland with Reykjavík. If you prefer you can meet the tour on location.
When you arrive at the destination you will be paired with a horse and then your riding tour will begin. This tour is, like the title states, ideal for families since you don’t have to be an experienced rider to do it. However, the tour also offers some flexibility with the routes so if the group is more experienced they will take a more challenging route. For the less experienced riders, you will ride on a beautiful and smooth path along the Ingólfsfjall mountain. A group of more experienced riders will ride by the river Gljúfurá and even ride in the river. Whichever path is the right one for your group, you will be sure to be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the Icelandic nature on a friendly Icelandic horse.
You can choose between going in the morning or the afternoon and the duration of the tour is 3 hours. You will be in the saddle for 1.5-2 hours and cover a distance of 7-10 km.
Good to know
You don’t have to worry about safety helmets and such, since you will get the necessary safety gear on location along with some outerwear and boots.
The weather is always a factor for outdoor activities in Iceland, so keep that in mind when you choose your outfit so that you will feel warm and comfortable during these hours outside.

As a person who loves to try new things, this has been a very pleasant experience. My horse's name is Plessi and she is the sweetest horse ever. She is beautiful, too. Very forgiving to a novice like me. Our guide is very helpful and patient, too. I just can't pronounce her name thus won't even pretend to spell it. The experience would have been totally awesome if the weather was not so cold and windy. You can only do so much riding when you are freezing.
“Great service, beautiful horses & scenery.”
We had a terrific experience with this company - Joy was very professional and went the extra mile even after the ride was over as she delivered some items I had left there. She was knowledgeable and experienced and very personable. The horses were well trained and even my beginner fiancé felt very safe and comfortable. We were able to tölt many times which added to my enjoyment since it's been a few years since I rode Icelandic horses that I looked after on Kauai for 3 years. It was great to be back in those comfortable saddles!! Very convenient location and great stables.
“One of my favorite experiences ever”
I'm a horse person, so I may be a bit biased because i have always longed to ride a majestic Icelandic horse. I did a quick ride because my kids and husband didnt want to ride. The guides werw great, horses were well-behaved and fun and scenery lovely. I would've enjoyed hearing more about the hisotry of the horses in Iceland, though. Still, they provided boots, gloves, and waterproof gear and despite the gloomy day, I had a smile on my face the whole time.
