Itinerary

The tour starts with a pick up from your hotel and guesthouse in Reykjavík and from there you leave on modified super jeep to Þingvellir national park. Next you will pass over the Icelandic highlands via the barren mountain pass Kaldidalur before you make your way up to Langjökull glacier. Next stop is a beautiful lava cave where you get all the equipment to enjoy the interesting rock formations and colors.. Before you head back to Reykjavík you will make a stop at the unusual Hraunfossar waterfalls that come crawling from underneath the lava and and one of the world’s biggest hot spring Deildartunguhver.

Please note that the route may change, especially in winter and spring, in accordance to road and weather conditions. We want you to have a good time but we also want you to be safe!

Practical information

Bathroom breaks: On this tour you go into the Icelandic highlands where there are no conventional bathrooms. The guide will make a bathroom break before you go into the highlands and then about 3-4 hours later. Although this is not a big problem for men, women should keep this in mind and maybe limit their fluid intake if they are not comfortable with roughing it out in nature.

Lunch: Again, because you are headed into the highlands, it’s not possible to make a lunch break where you can buy food so we recommend you bring your own lunch and snacks with you. If you are in a hurry or you can’t make your own lunch you can grab some sandwiches and snacks at the Þingvellir service center but keep in mind that the prices will be higher than in the city and there is also less selection.

What to wear

Please bring warm clothes as you will be outside part of the tour. It’s also good to dress in layers so you won’t be too warm inside in the jeep.

“Amazing experience”

A pricey trip but well worth the money. Fun experience with our driver getting though some snowy conditions. Highlights of the Essential iceland trip included climbing into an icy cave sitting in silence with no lights!, amazing waterfalls climbing up to a glacier and seeing husky dogs 🙂 one destination of the trip felt we were like on the moon seeing beautiful scenery for miles. Only 4 people so you really do get a tailored experience. Would do it again ! Get out of Reykjavik as there is so much more to see

“Essential Iceland Tour A++++”

This tour was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Him and his 'super rover' took us up giant glaciers, to amazing waterfalls, and hot springs. It was a little pricey, but worth every penny. When I go back to Iceland I will definitely be using this tour company again.

“A more personal approach than the bus tours (Essential Iceland tour)”

The jeep tours always try to go even if the weather is bad and they try to change their routes on the way if one attraction becomes unavailable. Our guide was FANTASTIC!!! Really informative, interacting, friendly, funny - he made this day trip really enjoyable. He provided a lot of information about Iceland, customs and stories. Max number of people is 7, so you can customize a little more and you get a more personal feel than the big bus tours. It's well worth paying the money. I would definitely recommend this company and if I hadn't already had booked more bus tickets, I would have definitely gone with them for more trips! The trip itself - as others say, wear warm clothes and good shoes. If you're visiting in the winter season the weather is no joke, so dress appropriately.
