Create your own Reykjavík

I have a confession to make: I actually visit the museum shops at the Reykjavík museums more than I visit the actual museums. It’s not that I don’t like the museums, because I do, it’s just that I am a sucker for little knickknacks that don’t necessarily have any purpose but look nice. Yes, I’m that superficial.

I can spend long times looking at things, touching them, wondering what I should do with them if I would buy them (because obviously I have no immediate need for them) or who I can give them to if I can’t find an imaginary reason to buy it for myself.

Create your own Reykjavík

During one of my visits to one of the museum shops I found the Your Own Reykjavík products that are aimed at children visiting Reykjavík. They consists of an activity book and postcards that have all kinds of fun projects and pictures to color with famous Reykjavík landmarks and activities.

I don’t know about your kids but when we travel the princess doesn’t exactly ooze of enthusiasm for all the places the boyfriend and I want to visit. She uses sighing to indicate her discontent and in extreme case she may resort to sulking. Admitting defeat and giving her other things to concentrate on is usually the way to get things back on track. In her case, since she’s getting dangerously close to becoming a teenager (dangerous for us, not for her) she can usually find ways to occupy herself with books and YouTube videos. For younger kids, an activity book with the things they are visiting might make spark some interest. Or just keep them occupied. You’re welcome.

The Your Own Reykjavík products are specially made for the museum shops and are available at all the Reykjavík museums. When I bought my kit (I managed to convince myself that I HAD to buy it for the blog – I may have an addiction I need to look into) they were selling a package that contained the activity book, all the postcards and 6 color pencils. for 2490 ISK. You can also buy the book separately for 1990 ISK and each card for 200 ISK

If you need me in the next few days I’ll be busy coloring and connecting dots.

I kind of want this for myself! I will now be searching to see if I can buy it online. 🙂

It’s only available in the museum shops for now I think.
