Learn Icelandic #15: North Iceland

I’m telling you, I am becoming a one woman media empire. The amount of crap (yes crap) I have to capture video, stills and audio is starting to frighten me (and also make me somewhat frustrated as I never have time to learn how to use all of these things) but my latest purchase was necessary. Vital even. I bought a shotgun mic that is designed for mobile devices so hopefully the awful audio of podcasts past will stay there: in the past.

Anyway, back to today’s episode of Auður makes a fool out of herself. Also known as the I Heart Reykjavík language podcast.

In this episode we learn how to pronounce some place names in the north of Iceland because, well, it’s an awesome area that you should check out. If you do so in the next few days though (I should have mentioned this in the podcast actually) just make sure you keep up with news of that feisty volcano.

Words covered in today’s episode

  • Akureyri
  • Goðafoss
  • Dettifoss
  • Ásbyrgi
  • Mývatn
  • Dimmuborgir
  • Húsavík
  • Dalvík

Oh and of course Sleipnir was Óðinn’s horse. I’m pretty sure Þór traveled in a goat carriage.
