Learn Icelandic #12: Greetings and the weather

I haven’t done one of these in two months (where did the time go?) but here is a new episode of the Learn Icelandic podcast. In this edition we’re going to learn about some greetings and then the ever popular weather.

The words covered in this episode:

  • Góðan dag
  • Gott kvöld (Góða kvöldið)
  • Bless Bless
  • Hæ hæ
  • Já já
  • Nei Nei
  • Sól
  • rigning
  • snjór
  • vindur
  • rok, strekksingsvindur (strekkingur)
  • stormur

  1. Wilson says:

Would “góðan daginn” be something like “the good day”? (and “góða kvöldið” “the good night”?)

  2. Góðan daginn is good day and góða kvöldið is more like good evening. Good night would be góða nótt and is something you say to your family when you are going to sleep or when you are saying good bye to people late at night.

I just want to tell you how much I’m enjoying your lessons and podcasts. It’s so helpful, and I’m so excited to come to Iceland in March. Also, your voice is lovely. Also, I apologize for not addressing you by name, I haven’t figured out how to teach my keyboard Icelandic letters. Also, I would love to learn about bar etiquette and how to say “cheers” or “to your health”. Takk takk!
