PARTNER TOUR – HANDPICKED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU
A tour that takes you to all the surprising wonders of the Reykjanes peninsula.
It’s amazing how many natural wonders are hidden, almost in plain sight, right in the area between Reykjavík and Keflavík Airport. It’s easy to combine this tour with a visit to the Blue Lagoon or to take this tour on the last day of your stay in Iceland, as this tour offers drop off in the Blue Lagoon or at the airport.
Pick up/drop off in Reykjavík. Guided mini bus tour. Optional drop off in Keflavík or Blue Lagoon
6-7 hours (pick up: 08:30 – 09:00)
Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays
About this tour
The Reykjanes peninsula has a lot to offer and is very close to Reykjavík. Reykjanes is located right where two tectonic plates drift apart, which gives it a lot of geothermal energy and seismic activity. This fact is what makes the area so interesting and beautiful.
The tour starts by visiting two very different lakes: Kleifarvatn and Grænavatn. The former is one of the biggest lakes in Iceland and in many parts surrounded by black sand beaches while the latter is much smaller and takes its name from its vibrant green color. You will continue to enjoy vibrant colors when you stand in front of the multi-colored hills of Krýsuvík. From there you will go on to Gunnuhver, a geothermal area of mud pools, that has a ghost story embedded in its history.
Moving to the tip of the peninsula you will have a chance to see different types of birds when you stand on the cliffs of Valahnúkur facing the Atlantic ocean. On a hill close to Valahnúkur you will find the oldest lighthouse in Iceland, Reykjanesviti. The last activity of the tour might be the highlight: to cross the “Bridge between continents”, where you can literally stand right where the Eurasian and American tectonic plates are drifting apart.
This tour offers a free drop off in Keflavik airport, which might be perfect if you are doing this tour on your last day in Iceland. You can also choose to be dropped off at the Blue Lagoon, or just go back to Reykjavík. You will be back in Reykjavík quite early in the afternoon so you will still have some time for some other activities.
The timing of the drop offs are the following:
– KEF airport by 14:00 (suitable for a departure time of 16:00 or later)
– Blue Lagoon by 2:45 PM
– Reykjavik around 3:30 PM
If you are planning to visit the Blue Lagoon and use the drop-off, note that you have to book the entry by yourself. Make your reservation well in advance as the spots fill up quickly. Also, if you stop at the Blue Lagoon, the return trip from there is not included in this tour, so you will take a bus on your own back to Reykjavík. There are scheduled buses from the Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík and Keflavík airport.
Also, if you stop at the Blue Lagoon, the return trip from there is not included in this tour, so you will take a bus on your own back to Reykjavík. You can book the return transfer here.
