Cook and dine – Yummy Icelandic Cooking Course

PARTNER TOUR – HANDPICKED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU

Learn to cook with Icelandic ingredients in Iceland’s most popular teaching kitchen: Salt Eldhús. The perfect half day activity for foodies, couples, group of friends or anyone who enjoys great food in good company (don’t we all?)

We are really happy to be able to offer this great course in cooperation with Salt Eldhús, a well know and immensely popular teaching kitchen here in Reykjavík, because we enjoyed it so much when we did it ourselves. If you like something small and a little bit different (kind of like our tours) you can’t go wrong with this course.

On this course you will learn to cook a three course meal with amazing Icelandic ingredients and then you’ll sit down with your fellow students and teacher and enjoy the meal and some hard earned wine. Icelandic fish and lamb are the stars of this show.

More information about the course

You don’t need any previous experience with cooking to enjoy this class and because preparing the dishes is a collaborative effort you don’t have to worry about messing anything up. You are here to learn!  And have fun!

During this course you will prepare three dishes: appetizer, main and dessert. Although the course is designed around typical Icelandic ingredients the instructor will also give you advise on how you can replicate the recipes at home.

You will be provided with an apron but you are asked not to wear open toe shoes and to tie your hair back for the food preparation. You will also get some snacks before you start.

At the end of the course you will get a souvenir recipe folder with all the recipes prepared on the course so you can show off to your friends when you come home. That’s your next dinner party sorted!

Small group sizes – lots of opportunities for your questions

Because the groups are small there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions about anything that pops into mind during the course. This makes the environment very welcoming and everyone is included.

When each dish is ready you will sit down as a group and taste the dishes which makes this a perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow travelers and instructor. You might even leave the course with a new friend or two.

“Amazing Food and Views”

This cooking class was amazing. The 3 course meal we cooked was delicious and the views we had from the kitchen and eating area were amazing. The food was fresh, typical Icelandic (Arctic Char, Cod and a delicious cake/strudel) and it all tasted great. Our teacher, chef and owner, was wonderful, patient and answered all our questions about not just about cooking and food, but Icelandic life, culture and history too! I would recommend this to everyone. It was one of many highlights of our 7 days in Iceland, but one we would like to repeat!

“Fun day in the kitchen!”

We spent a very fun afternoon with great company in the Salt kitchen cooking up a meal of traditional Icelandic cuisine. The kitchen is a clean, beautiful light filled space with a panoramic view of Reykjavik. Our instructor had a lovely sense of humour and imparted lots of information on the history of Iceland and the food we were preparing. We met another lady from Arizona during our class and enjoyed some laughs together as we all joined in to prepare the 3 recipes that Eli had chosen. Finally we all sat down to enjoy the beautiful meal we had prepared along with wine, some great conversation and some more laughs.

“An amazing afternoon!!!”

On a whim, my wife and I decided to try this and as we look back on our time in Reykjavik, it was one of our highlights. Chef Ellie could not have been more fun, entertaining and professional in teaching us how to cook and learn about Icelandic food. We had a blast, learned a lot as we prepared and ate one of the best meals we had on our trip. We would recommend this cooking class to anyone!
