A South Coast road trip with Jennifer and Richard

On Wednesday I met up with a couple from Seattle, Jennifer and Richard, for coffee at Stofan. They told me they were going to take a drive out of the city the next day and before I knew it I had invited myself along. We left the city around 8am and were  back just before 9pm. In between we visited some amazing places like Vík, Reynisfjara, Skógar, Seljalandsfoss, Gullfoss, Geysir and Þingvellir at dusk in the most beautiful weather that you could possibly imagine. I’m especially happy that I got to visit Skógar Folk museum and can therefore officially tick the first thing off my 2013 Iceland bucket list.

The route that we did is a combination of the south coast and golden circle day tours that I mentioned in my day tours post and to be honest it’s a very long drive. Jennifer and Richard only had one day to go out and explore and had planned to drive the Golden circle. After I invited myself along for the tour I also convinced them to change things up a bit (I really need to work on my manners) and drive all the way to Vík and back. Despite it being a long drive, and the fact we were loosing the light by the time we reached Gullfoss, the amazing sunset on the way to Þingvellir and the pink and purple skies once we got there totally made up for it. Jennifer and Richard agreed that they wouldn’t have wanted to miss what the drive to Vík added and were very happy. Beautiful weather, majestic waterfalls and fantastic company – what more can you ask for? Amazing day!

How much time did you allocate to each stop?
Would like to do a combo of Golden Circle and South Coast in 1 day in Sept.

My husband and I are from Canada. First time in Iceland.

You have to decide that on your own as I can’t tell you which places will inspire you to stay longer.
